Special Olympics Youth & Schools

project management & website design

During my time working as the Multimedia Storytelling and Content Manager for Special Olympics’ Global Youth and Education (GYE) Team, I was tasked with creating a new online hub for our work. The process was highly collaborative and we were able to launch a new section of the Special Olympics website devoted to not just the GYE team’s work, but all Special Olympics programming related to youth and schools.

I wore several hats throughout the project. I acted as the project manager, coordinating efforts between the GYE team, the communications and web teams, Special Olympics Regions, and our external vendors. I also provided creative direction as we developed a unique style for the youth and schools work, while adhering to the existing Special Olympics brand guidelines. I contributed to content creation with writing, graphic design, video editing, and copyediting. I learned how to build sections and pages on the backend of the CMS. I created resources to support ongoing updates and maintenance to the site, and to ensure awareness of our updated brand and style guidelines. And finally, I developed a comprehensive communications plan for our launch.

Leading this project with my team was an amazing experience. The creativity and collaboration that led to our final product made the sense of accomplishment that much greater. Thank you to everyone who contributed to and supported this work. It was truly a team effort and I am excited to see the continued growth of Special Olympics’ work in inclusive education and youth development across the globe.
